Educational....

Its been some time since I posted a blog and I feel really bad about that. There was a time when I would post one EVERY DAY! Then it went to 3 days a week and now its around once every other week. I feel so disappointed with how I have treated this blog and I apologize to all of you out there that do follow my blog and look forward to my post. I have a blog to post with some silly pictures from the weekend before but I feel that it has come and gone. If I am going to post old pictures then I should post something worth posting.

I also feel bad these days because I read my blogs and I don't really explain anything that I do. I just go on about how busy I am and how much editing I have to do or type about how much fun I'm having out at the concerts and events with all my friends. A long time ago I use to post bulletins on Myspace about photography and would show videos that I found online that would basically be tutorials on types of photography that I liked. There are a lot of photographers out there that have online video blogs or tutorials, that show behind the scenes of their shoots. I use to designate about 8hrs a week to reading their blogs and watching their videos just to learn a little and keep myself ahead of the rest in my area. The problem that came with doing this is that everyone would message me on myspace or to my email and ask me questions about lighting equipment and cameras. I'm flattered that some people think to come to me with their questions but I really only know from what I read and what I do on a day to day basis. I did not go to college for photography or art, in fact I barely went to college for a year before quitting to apprentice with other photographers and learn the old fashion way. I sometimes think about going back to school and these days an amazing friend of mine is really pushing for me to do just that.

Well, enough of that, here's a little mini tutorial on this shot I found on my external hard drive earlier today from 2 years ago. Its actually a very easy picture to take if you are using a Nikon SLR.

I'll go about this as if you do not have a Nikon though, since a majority of people out there are weird and use Canon.

First off, I had all the lights off in the room and set up my speedlight on the keyboard of the laptop. Then used turned the power on my flash on the camera to as low as the power can go. That way there is a minor fill of light in the foreground and the main focus would be the light coming from the laptop. I took a few shots to test the aperture and adjust the flash so that the shadow would be dramatic behind the subject. Then in photoshop I put a cooling filter on the image to give the effect of the light being from the screen, in oppose to it being the harsh white light that the flash gives off. If you have any questions, I don't mind....

COME BACK LATER THIS WEEK....
I'm going to have some HOT SHOOTS this week.
